Rotating Attack Eagle Bird Deterrent with Distress calls |
Are birds entering or nesting
in your warehouse? If so, left unchecked, these pest birds can lead to millions
of dollars in lost inventory or possible fines from the health department. The Facility Managers deal with this problem
on a daily basis as they strive to keep their building clean and free from
unwanted birds. Not only can these problem birds contaminate products, but also they can
lead to health diseases that can be carried by pest birds.
How Do Pest Birds Enter a Warehouse?
Pest birds such as pigeons,
sparrows and starlings typically enter buildings through large open warehouse
doors which are usually left open during business hours to allow forklifts or
trucks to load and unload inventory. Open doors also allow for airflow and
employees to easily access the building. Once inside the work space, the problem birds usually sit on beams or
rafters above the warehouse floor.
Prevent Pest Birds from Entering a Building
To stop birds from flying
into a warehouse, try to determine the problem species and what they are doing
before entering the facility. If the problem bird is pigeons or gulls, they
will typically roost on the roof line before entering the building. To deter
this behavior, install on the roof line a row of Bird Spikes or Bird Shock. Bird Shock also deters small birds such as sparrows and starlings above the
warehouse doors. Eliminating this launching point will help to solve and/or reduce
the bird problem. Also mount a Rotating Attack Eagle Predator Decoy above the entry point. Another product which can be very effective to help direct pest birds away from the area is the new-to-the-market Bird Free Bird Repellent Gel which creates an illusion of fire for the birds. These pre-loaded gel dishes can be placed in the gap between the rolling door and the door frame.
Visual Bird Deterrents
The next line of defense is
to create a no-fly zone around the buildings access points. Do this by installing
strategically placed audio and visual bird deterrents. The purpose of visual bird deterrents is to create fear in
birds by utilizing movement, reflective sunlight, bright colors, and fearful
symbols. Hang products such as Holographic Owl, Scare Eye Octopus with Flash Tape, Holographic Repel Strips, Firefly Bird Diverters. All of these visual
deterrents should be hung from Swivel Brackets in front of and around the warehouse
doors. Position them so that they are out and away from the building and that
way the deterrent can move freely and is better positioned to interfere with
the bird’s flight path. We also suggest mounting the new

on the side of building. This moving product reflects sunbeams back at the
birds, which startles them and frightens them away from the area. Remember, your goal is to
overwhelm the birds with a sense of fear and make it uncomfortable for them to
remain.
Bird Chaser Bird Deterrent
- want to move flocks of crows out of trees or off power lines? The
ground-breaking Bird Chaser bird deterrent is a visual bird scare
device that deters problem crows & starlings from unwanted areas by
reflecting irregular light beams from the sun.
A new pest bird deterrent
is the Optical Bird Gel, which affects all pest bird species by triggering multiple
sensory responses. First, the material emits a UV light to make it appear as a
flame to approaching birds. Stick the pre-loaded Optical Bird Gel dishes near and around the
warehouse door entrance.
Audio Bird Deterrents
In front of the door or access point,
mount a audio deterrent system.
They are available in a variety of price ranges from the low-end Bird Gard,
to the high-end Bird Squawker.
All are pre-programmed with species-specific alarm, distress and raptor
sounds.
Use Vinyl Strip Doors to prevent Access
|
Clear Vinyl Strip Doors keep birds out! |
If you are interested in using a
physical barrier to keep birds out of the warehouse, clear plastic door strips
can be installed without limiting access to the area. Vinyl Strip Doors are used to prevent pest birds from entering a warehouse without
blocking the view of the inside or preventing people from walking through it.
They are made up of a series of overlapping flexible vinyl strips that are transparent,
odorless and non-toxic. The plastic door strips part only enough to let a
person or truck pass through, but they do deter pest birds from flying in.
Additional Warehouse Deterrents
No single product stands
alone; a combination of Bird deterrents must be used with repeated reinforcement as necessary
